Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get help?

For starters, check the Info section in the main menu. There are articles on topics that may answer your question. Also check out the Forum area. There are areas for each of the tools we sell. Someone may have answered your question in the "Ask for help" area. If not, post your question there. We check these forums regularly.

How do I install my tool?

From the file menu of your Metatrader platform, select Open Data Folder. This will open a file browser window. Navigate to the MQL4 folder. Take note of whether your tool is an Indicator, an Expert Advisor, or a Script and navigate to the corresponding folder. Drag your file into this folder. If you have downloaded your tool from the purchase page or the downloads section of the My Account it will be in a zip archive. You will need to extract the ex4 file from the archive before you install it.

Right after you purchase your tool, you will receive an email with the license code needed to make your tool run. The license code begins with an abreviation for your tool (ATM, CMA, etc). If you need your code and can't find the email, you can always log into your account at CoolTradingTools.com and look at the "My account" area. All your license codes will be there. Copy that entire license code and put it into the "License Code" field on the inputs tab of the tool's properties window. On the Common tab, you will need to check "Allow DLL imports".

If your tool is the ATM expert, you will also need to ensure "Enable live lrading" is checked and that you have enabled AutoTrading on your Metatrader platform.

I installed my tool and it doesn't work! How can I fix it?

First, pay attention to any messages the tool might show. There will be clues there. Sometimes useful messages appear in the Experts tab of the terminal subwindow.

If there are no messages and nothing seems to happen, verify that you installed the tool in the correct subfolder of your MT4 data folder. MT4 expects all indicators to be installed within the Indicators tree, expert advisors to be installed in the Experts tree, and Scripts to be installed in the Scripts tree. If you install in the wrong branch of the folder tree, you will be able to SEE the tool, but nothing will happen when you try to use the tool.

If your tool is an Expert Advisor like ATM, verify that you see a smiley face in the upper right corner of the chart on which you have the expert installed. If you see a frowning face, you probably forgot either "Enable Live Trades" permission on the common tab of the expert properties window or enabling Autotrading permission.

Swiss Army Knife trade buttons and the Buy Sell Buttons both rely on ATM running. If they are not working, verify that ATM is happy.

I just installed Cool Currency Strength and it's not drawing any lines. What's wrong?

When Cool Currency Strength is first loaded and licensed, there may be a significant pause that may seem to be a defective product.  What is happening is that CCS needs to fetch chart information on all pairs in the Market Watch related to your current symbol and timeframe.  If that information hasn't been downloaded from the broker, that information will need to be downloaded.  That's what takes the time.  Be patient.  Once the downloads have happened, CCS will be quick and responsive.

What are the best settings for my tool?

I'm not going to tell you because I don't know! Only you know how you trade and I can't presume to tell you. I can tell you how things work, but you need to make them fit.

Figuring out any new tool is a process of discovery and fitting the tool to the way you trade. Some of the indicators have useful presets, but they are not intended to be anything more than a starting point for your own exploration.

In the case of ATM, that exploration process can be deep and instructive. In the case of simpler tools, the utility will be readily apparent.

Where can I find the latest software revisions?

The "downloads and revisions" section of the forum is the place to go!

How does licensing work?

Licensing is explained in this article in the Info Section.

I think something is wrong.  How can I get it fixed?

First, check this FAQ and look in the forum in the "Ask A Question" area. You might find an answer there. If you don't know whether there is something wrong with your code or something wrong with your settings, you can ask your question there.

If there is really an issue with the code, enter a bug report in the forum "Bugs" area. Please attach screenshots of what you're seeing and screenshots of your settings. (Learn about taking screenshots here)

In the case of deeper ATM problems, I may ask you to enable detailed logging. Logging can be started from the expert's properties window. Left-click the "smiley face" in the upper right-hand corner of the expert's chart. Scroll to the bottom of the input settings and set the log level to the number I ask you to put in. Once you experience the issue you're reporting, you can find the log file by opening your terminal's data folder and browsing to MQL4\Files. The ATM log files are name as ATM_log_<account number>_YYYY.MM.DD.log You'll find the log file with today's date and the appropriate account number and attach that to your bug report.

Why does the Swiss Army Knife not show the full symbol name?

The symbol switcher's button size defaults to accommodate a 6 character symbol. Some brokers add a prefix or suffix to the base symbol name. In these cases, the symbol text may overflow the button area.

The size of the buttons, spacing between buttons, and font size are all configurable in SAK's Inputs area. You can find the symbol switcher settings at the bottom of the inputs. The default settings are shown after the name of the setting. This can be helpful in getting things back if you make a mess of things.

When the text doesn't fit, you can either reduce the font size or expand the button. If you expand the button size, you may need to reduce the "Buttons in a horizontal row" setting so the buttons fit on your chart.
