MT4 platform frozen?
Here's how to get going again.
When things go wrong, sometimes they go wrong in a big way. Maybe you installed a bad indicator. Maybe you had so many charts and symbols loaded MT4 just didn't know what to do anymore. You force close the platform, reload, and it's Still Frozen!
What to do?
Find MetaEditor
After closing the frozen platform (You might need to use task manager for this) you will need to get to your data folder. You can use MetaEditor for this. You will need to use the MetaEditor program associated with the frozen brokerage platform.
Start by clicking the start menu, then right clicking the broker's platform, then more, then "Open File Location"
Launch MetaEditor
Double click on Metaeditor to open.
From MetaEditor, open your data folder.
Click on File then select "Open Data Folder"
Navigate to profiles/default
When you open the data folder, you will see lots of folders. Double click on "profiles".
If you have been using profiles you will see familiar profile names. If you haven't been using them, you will likely be looking at "default". Select the profile name you've been using (or default) and you should see something similar to this.
The order.wnd describes the order of the chart tabs on your mt4. The charts are described in the .chr files.
Create a folder to store the chart information
right click on the background of the folder, select "New", then "Folder"
Name the folder and move all the files into it.
You are going to use the new folder to store the .chr files and the order.wnd file and hide them from MT4.
Highlight the files and drag and drop them into the folder you created.
Behold! It's clean!
Your MT4 should now open up with no charts loaded. This will NOT affect your templates. This will NOT affect your selected currency pairs.
Carefully re-build your charts and pay attention to what's causing your problems.
